466 million people worldwide deal with hearing loss. 34 million of those people are children, and many do not have access to the hearing health care that they need.

Dr. Heidi Hill had the privilege to serve on 2 Hearing the Call humanitarian trips to South Africa in partnership with the Sabrina Love Foundation.
With support from the Osseo Lions, I served as in audiologist in Malawi, Africa, in partnership with ABC Hearing in Malawi in May 2024.
My team and I helped more than 500 people during our 3-day clinic working alongside audiology students in Malawi for hands-on experience. Over 100 people were fitted with new hearing aids!
I asked a lovely woman how she was hearing after I fit her. She stated that she was happy and would walk home proud. I asked her how far she had to walk. 10 miles was how far she had walked early that morning. She sat all day in hopes of getting seen and as the sun was going down, she was about to walk 10 miles home by herself, in the dark. And she was happy and proud, all because she could hear.
This is the value of healthy hearing.
Transforming Access to Hearing Health Globally and Locally
We are privileged to partner with Hearing the Call, a 501c3 organization that provides hearing health care to those individuals who don’t have access to it, whether globally through humanitarian trips or locally through our chapter Hearing the Call – Twin Cities.
Hearing the Call also partners with communities to help train and support long-tern hearing health care through scholarships, equipment, and building clinics, as well as training and educating on-site caregivers to help maintain sustainable hearing health care both locally and across the world.
Serving others is the most joyful part of what I do. These trips give me an opportunity to learn, laugh, become a better person and a better audiologist.

After serving in Malawi in 2024, it has captured my heart. Our hope is to increase access to hearing health care in Malawi through sustainable audiology services provided by audiologists in Malawi. I’m honored to serve as the Malawi Developmental Lead for Hearing the Call to support expanding audiology services in Malawi.
